About Trish

Dr. Trish Baer is an Adjunct Professor in Medieval Studies at the University of Victoria. Her research interests are focused on the transmission and reception of Norse mythology, both in text and image. She is the creator and editor of MyNDIR: My Norse Digital Image Repository (https://myndir.uvic.ca). Her leisure activities include spinning, weaving, knitting, and needle felting.  Many of Trish’s felted pieces are based on Illustrations that she researched and studied for her Ph.D. thesis,  An Old Norse Image Hoard: From the Analog Past to the Digital Present.

Trish is of Icelandic descent and her patronym in Iceland is Pálmadóttir. Her father’s first name, Pálmi, means “palm tree” in Icelandic. The logo for Pálmadóttir Creations features an illustration by Gerhard Munthe from “The Saga of the Sons of Magnus” in Heimskringla. The image consists of a stylized Viking ship in the shape of a sea snake with two palm trees instead of a mast. Trish likes the visual pun that works in both Icelandic and English linking her Icelandic patronym with the logo.
